With the increasing awareness of environment, ecology and pollution control, natural dyes have a revival ami heading towards a period of renaissance. They are compatible with the nature due to their non-hazardous nature and produce colours that are gentle, soft, and subtle and create a restful effect. Hamelia patens is such a valuable dye extracting plant. It yields pink colour and with the use of mordants it produces various colours on silk ranging from pink to gray. In the present study an attempt has been made to optimize various dyeing variables of Hamelia dye for dyeing of silk.
