and discouraging factors to take up the selected enterprise viz beauty parlours, boutiques, play
schools, florists and nursery schools. Two hundred women represented the total sample of the
study. An interview schedule was used to collect the data.The results indicated that majority of
the respondents were middle aged, graduate, married, had family size of 4 members, were from
business class and had monthly income between Rs. 20001-40000. Family income
supplementation was the major encouraging factor with mean score of 2.87 while labour problem
was the major discouraging factor with a mean score 1.76.
