Rural youth are the backbone of a country. It is a golden rule to remobilise the youth for their
constructive involvement in any programme aimed at development of the community for the optimum
utilization of best available human resources. Despite of being so salient element for building a better
rural India, no serious attempt has been made to develop the integrated personality of rural youths
.The present study was undertaken in Vijaypur block of Jammu district (J&K). The investigation was
done to assess the important dimensions of interest and activities of rural young boys and youth.
The study was carried out on 80 respondents in 4 villages of C.A.D. Block, Vijaypur, District Jammu.
The main out comes of the study are very less rural youth were grouped to higher socio-economic
status, which is also very less in the present scenario of rural development. Amongst all the items of
social interest ‘Making new friends and working with friends’ were noticed as most preferred item
i.e. 100 per cent in lower age group but slightly decreased as the age increases & in Political interest
‘Knowledge & faith in Indian politician’ has maximum percentage in all age groups and is remarkable
to see that Majority of rural youth found interested in ‘Respecting the family culture’. In case of
economic interest ‘Helping in family earning’ was observed the most preferred item and ‘Participating
in rural religious functions’ was reported positively related with the age group of rural youth in case
