NUTRITIONAL PROFILE OF ELDERLY SUBJECTS OF HISAR

The present study was conducted in 120 elderly subjects of Hisar district to study the food and nutrient intake by elderly subjects. Majority of rural as well as urban subjects were vegetarian. Daily mean jmake of cereals, pulses, green leafy vegetables, roots and tubers, other vegetables, fruits and fats and oils were significantly (P 0.05) lower than RDA, whereas consumption of milk and milk products and sugar was significantly (P 0.05) higher than RDA. Daily mean intake of energy, iron, thiamine, riboflavin and vitamin C was sgnificantly (P 0.05) lower than RDA. Protein intake was adequate and intake of calcium, vitamin A was significantly highir thanRDA inelderly subjects.
