PSYCHOLOGICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF DAIRY TRIBES OF NILGIRI DISTRICT OF TAMILNADU

Dairying is one of the most important and economically viable occupation for the tribal households. The present study was carried out in Nilgiris District of Tamilnadu. A total sample of 306 tribal households for the six tribes namely Todas, Kotas, Kurumbas, Irulas, Paniyas and Kattunaickas were studied. The psychological profile of dairy tribal households was studied under two sub-heads viz., Economic motivation and Fatalism - Scientism. The study reflected that majority of males respondents had low level of economic motivation followed by high and medium level of economic motivation. But in case of Fatalism - Scientism, the data of different tribal households revealed that the respondents showed high level of fatalism - scientism, followed by medium and low level fatalism - scientism.
