<div><strong>Background:</strong> Fasciolosis is a crucial helminthes disease caused by two trematodes of the genus Fasciola: <em>Fasciola hepatica</em> (temperate liver fluke) and <em>Fasciola gigantica</em> (tropical liver fluke).<br />
<br />
<strong>Methods: </strong>A cross-sectional study was conducted on cattle and sheep in a slaughterhouse to detect animals infected with Fasciolosis. Liver samples were collected from infected animals and transferred to the laboratory for histopathological and immunohistochemical examinations.<br />
<br />
<strong>Result:</strong> Microscopically, the liver sections were showed extensive fibrous connective tissue surrounding the central vein and portal area with extensive thickening of bile ducts wall and fibrosis. Marked infiltration of inflammatory cells was also seen.</div>

<div>Fasciola gigantica cathepsin (cysteine) proteases are potential diagnostic antigens for animal and human fasciolosis. These include cathepsin-L proteases that have been exploited in the diagnosis of animal fasciolosis. However, no scientific data on the diagnostic potential of F. gigantica cathepsin B proteases is available. Therefore, three recombinant antigens of F. gigantica viz. cathepsin (cat) B-1, cat B-2 and cat B-3 were expressed in prokaryotic expression system. The recombinant antigens were purified under denaturing conditions by Nickel affinity chromatography and an optimal level of the recombinant proteins was obtained. These recombinant proteins will further be evaluated for their potential in the early prepatent diagnosis of F. gigantica infection in domestic ruminants.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">The aim of this study is to determine the prevalence of Fasciola hepatica in the cattle raised in the Siirt province of Turkey and to obtain epidemiologic data about the disease in order to reveal its relationship with certain biochemical parameters. The material of the study consists of a total of 380 cattle. The blood sample was obtained from the jugular vein of the animals. Meanwhile, approximately 50-100 gr of feces were also collected from the animal&rsquo;s rectum for a fecal examination. The zinc sulfate flotation method was used to inspect the fecal samples. 338 (89%) of samples were found to be seronegative, while the remaining 42 (11%) were seropositive. GGT, ALP, ALT, AST, TP and Albumin parameters analyzed on the serum samples. GGT levels of the seropositive animals were found to be statistically higher compared to the control group. As a result, the ELISA method was confirmed to be more accurate in the diagnosis of fasciolosis, and the increased GGT activity in the serum was determined as a significant indicator of the diagnosis.</div>
