Background: Oxytropis coerulea is considered to be an exceptional forage. The salinization of soil is a prevalent ecological issue worldwide. In order to study the effects of saline solution on seed germination and embryo growth of O. coerulea. 
 
Methods: An experiment was carried out using the culture dish filter paper method. Three salt stresses, namely, Na2CO3, NaCl and double salt were set, each of which was set to 0%, 0.3%, 0.6% and 0.9% concentration. 
 
Result: The results indicated that as the concentration of salt increased, there was a decrease in the germination rate, germination index and embryo growth. The activities of SOD, POD and CAT, as well as soluble protein content, initially increased and then decreased with increasing salt stress. The toxic effects of the three salts ranged from strong to weak as Na2CO3 &gt; double salt &gt; NaCl. The salt resistance indexes of 0.3% Na2CO3, NaCl and double salt were 53.87, 57.00 and 38.73, respectively and the salt resistance index of 0.6% NaCl was 50.21, indicating a high salt-tolerant degree. It showed certain resistance to 0.3% Na2CO3, 0.6% NaCl and 0.3% double salt. In short, the various soluble mechanisms of O. coerulea in different stages of salt stress and different salt stress levels have different reaction mechanisms, which reflect the salt stress of O. coerulea seeds. O. coerulea seeds can be planted in a suitable concentration of saline-alkali land, which can utilize the feed value and medicinal value of O. coerulea to improve economic benefits and utilize saline soil to improve the ecological environment.

Effects of Salt Stress on Seed Germination and Embryo Growth of Oxytropis coerulea

Oxytropis ochrocephala is one of the most extensively used herbs in traditional Tibetan folk medicine to clear heat through detumescence, strengthen the body, and improve immune system. However, research studies examining its medicinal value are limited. By conducting experiments using animal models (mice) in airtight space at ambient and reduced pressure, as well as sodium nitrite exposure, the anti-hypoxia effects of the ethanol extract of O. ochrocephala (EEOO) were investigated in the present study. &nbsp;&nbsp;

EEOO was administered to three groups of mice for 7 days; 1.5 g/kg for the high-dosage group (EHD), 1.0 g/kg for the medium-dosage group (EMD) and 0.5 g/kg for the low-dosage group (ELD). Hypoxia was induced in mice by placing the animals in an airtight space at reduced pressure, and sodium nitrite poisoning was conducted for 1 hour after the last intragastric administration. The levels of glutathione peroxidase enzyme (GSH-Px), superoxide dismutase (SOD) and malondialdehyde (MDA) in the myocardium and cerebral tissues were determined by the colorimetric method. Protein expression of BAX and BCL-2 was detected by ELISA. A high lethal dose (LD50) of 3,000 mg/kg was obtained in acute toxicity. Mice in the blank control group survived longer than those in the EHD group under hypoxic conditions. All biochemical criteria were significantly enhanced (P&lt; 0.05). EEOO increased the tolerance of mice to hypoxia, which is indicative of its anti-hypoxia effects. The major components are 5,7-Dihydroxy-4&#39;-methoxy-hydroxy-2-phenyl, 5,7-Dihydroxy-4&#39;-methoxy-2-phenyl-4-benzo pyrone-3-O-b-galacto pyranoside.

Anti-hypoxia effects of the ethanol extract of Oxytropis ochrocephala&nbsp;

Oxytropis falcata is used as the main material to prepare various Tibetan traditional medicine, which its activity was reported that anti-inflammation and analgesia. Flavonoids is the chemical basis for the anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant efficacy. The influence of total flavonoids of Tibetan herb O. falcata on myocardial ischemic-reperfusion injury was investigated using ethanol, chloroform, and ethyl acetate extracts. Rats were pretreated with different concentrations of the extract for 7 days. The model of myocardial ischemic-reperfusion injury was established by ligating the left anterior descending (LAD) artery in the heart. Following reperfusion for 40 minutes, the enzyme activity of creatine kinase (CK), lactic acid dehydrogenase (LDH), superoxide dismutase (SOD), and glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px), and the concentration of malondialdehyde (MDA) in the rat serum were measured. The ultrastructural pathological change was observed under transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The serum levels of CK, LDH, and MDA were reduced, and the activity of SOD and GSH-Px were increased significantly, by chloroform and ethyl acetate extracts (P&lt;0.01, P&lt;0.05). The ultrastructural pathological change in myocardial ischemic-reperfusion injury was alleviated by both extracts. The major components in chloroform extract were 7-hydroxy-flavonone and 2&#39;,4&#39;-dihydroxy chalcone. 7-Hydroxy-flavanon naringenine naringetol and 2&#39;,4&#39;-dihydroxy chalcone were the major components in ethyl acetate extract. Total flavonoids of Tibetan herb O. falcata might alleviate myocardial ischemic-reperfusion injury.
