<div>An attempt was made to isolate and characterize Fluorescent pseudomonads from the rhizosphere soil samples and further screening of the isolates for their antagonistic properties against Sclerotium rolfsii Sacc., of soybean. The isolates were subjected for morphological, biochemical and functional characterization. All the isolates exhibited fluorescence under UV light. Cells were rods and gram negative. All the isolates produced clear zone of P- solubilization (TCP) (18.80-21.71mm diameter) on Pikovskaya&rsquo;s agar medium. The fluorescent pseudomonads produced significantly varying quantities of IAA (19.97 &micro;g to 28.89 &micro;g IAA/25 ml of broth) and GA (18.52 &micro;g per 25 ml broth). All the isolates showed antagonistic activity against Sclerotium rolfsii. The per cent inhibition ranged from 36.85 to 70.37. Under pot culture experiment, lowest PDI was observed in DFP48 followed by DFP47, among the FP isolates. These isolates also showed maximum peroxidase activity and also plant growth promotional activities.</div>

<div>The in vitro investigation was conducted during the kharif 2017 in the Department of Seed Science and Technology, College of Agriculture, Vijayapura. The experiment comprised of nine biopriming treatments along with control. The experiment was laid out in CRD with three replications. The seeds were subjected to in vitro studies and data was analysed statistically. &nbsp;The seed bioprimed with Rhizobium leguminosarum @ 20 per cent recorded higher &nbsp;seed germination percentage (90.50 %), shoot length (19.27 cm), root length (12.38 cm), seedling length (31.65 cm), seedling dry weight (373.0 mg), seedling vigour index I (2864), seedling vigour index II (33.75), dehydrogenase enzyme activity (1.010 OD value) and lower electrical conductivity (0.107 dS m-1) followed by Pseudomonas fluorescens @ 20 per cent, Fluorescent pseudomonad sp. @ 20 per cent as compared to control.</div>

<p>Indiscriminate use of chemicals as fertilizers and pesticides gives rise to substantial harm to the environment and ecosystem along with animals and humans. More importantly, to replace such hazardous agrochemicals, many biological solutions are available in nature which is present in the form of microorganisms having the capacity to promote plant growth substantially. <em>Pseudomonas</em> play a major role in plants like inducing systemic resistance, colonizing plant roots or tissue interior, helping in modulating plant hormone levels, biological control of pathogens and more over regulating the growth-related genes in plants. The <em>fluorescent</em> <em>pseudomonads</em> belong to plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR) and many strains of <em>pseudomonas</em> are well known to enhance plant growth promotion and decrease the severity of many diseases. Biocontrol strains of pseudomonas in plant bioassays synthesize one or more several antibiotic compounds. <em>In vitro</em>, these antibiotics have been proven as inhibitory compounds and have exhibited active responses for plant health management in field conditions. The current study mainly relies on the effective use of <em>Pseudomonas</em> spp. as a potential biocontrol agent for the biological control of many diseases in agriculture and horticultural crops.&nbsp;</p>
