1Department of Agricultural Botany,
Agricultural College and Research Institute, TNAU, K1llikulam - 628 252, India
ABSTRACT
Thirteen parents belonging to Gossypium hirsutum along with their 30 F1 hybrids were evaluated in L " T model for 15 characters. Most of the crosses showed low mean performance for their parents, but having high heterotic vigour. The characters plant height, number of sympodia per plant, number of bolls per plant and most of the quality characters studied showed more nunber of significant heterotic crosses for all the three types of heterosis. The hybrid TSH 289 " MCU 10 was found to be highly heterotic for seed cotton yield and number of bolls per plant than other crosses. The parents HLS 72, TAU 10 and LRA 5166, showed high mean performance, produced heterotic crosses for the quality characters.
