STUDIES ON COMBINING ABILITY IN POINTED GOURD (TRICHOSANTHES DIOICA ROXB.)

Combining ability for various characters were studied in pointed gourd using line tester analysis. Two lines namely, NDP-4 and NDP-20 were observed good general combiner for yield. Among the testers, NDP-1 (M) was found to be good general combiner for yield. For number of fruits per plant the line NDP-4 and tester NDP-1 (M) were good general combiner. Ten cross combinations showed significant sca effects for yield. Among these NDP-3 (F-1) x NDP-4 (M) and NDP-17 x NDP-4 (M) exhibited maximum and minimum values of sca effects.
