ABSTRACT
The efficacy of 8 different vegetable oils each at 2 concentrations viz.,,3 ml/kg and 4 ml/kg, 12 different plant powders each at 4% concentrations and ethanolic extracts of 3 plants each at 3 concentrations (6, 8 and 10 mllkg of seed) were tested against seed beetle Caryedon serratus (Oliv.) infesting stored groundnut in Orissa. The study revealed that vegetable oils of neem, Pongamia, coconut and mustard can be used @ 4 mllkg which can inhibit oviposition and growth of adult beetles and also does not hamper seed germination significantly. Lantana camara and Tulsi plant powder @ 4.00% (w/w) can also be used to protect pods stored for future consumption. Ethanolic extracts of plants (20% w/v) like Ageratum conizoides, Vitex negundo andLantana camara @ 10 ml/kg are also effective against this pest.
