PROBABLITY ANALYSIS OF RAINFALL AT KOTA
1Department of Soil and Water Engineering,
College of Technology and Engineering, MPUAT, Udaipur–313 001, India
ABSTRACT
A detailed statistical analysis of weekly and monthly rainfall for Kota was carried out using 35
years (1970-2004) daily rainfall data collected from Central Soil and Water Conservation Research
Centre, Kota. The variation in weekly and monthly rainfall pattern was found to be more consistent
during monsoon season. For forecasting the weekly and monthly rainfall Weibull’s method, Normal,
Log-normal and Gamma probability distribution functions were fitted. Calculated Chi-square values
were compared with tabular values at 5 per cent level of significance. Using Weibull’s (extreme
value type III) method weekly rainfall was predicted at various probability levels. Gumbel distribution
was found to be fitted well for prediction of weekly and monthly maximum rainfall
