<div>Background: Red swamp crayfish (Procambarus clarkii) is one of the most economically important farmed aquatic species in China. However, it is also a famous invasive species in the world.

Methods: The present study simulated near current (1970-2000) and future (2030s, 2050s) suitable distribution areas of P. clarkii aquaculture in China under 4 climate scenarios (SSP126, SSP245, SSP370 and SSP585) and screened out the dominant factors affecting the distribution as well, using the MaxEnt model with 60 effective distribution points.

Result: The results showed that mean AUC was 0.986, which indicated a better forecast. The highly suitable aquaculture areas for crayfish were Hubei, Hunan, and Anhui Province. The important environmental factors affecting the distribution of P. clarkii were mean temperature of warmest quarter, precipitation of wettest quarter, isothermality and temperature seasonality. Compared to the present-day predictions, the total area of suitable distribution (general-, medium- and high-suitability) gradually increased in the 2030s and 2050s. The ranking of the total area under different climate change scenarios were SSP370 &gt; SSP585 &gt; SSP126 &gt; SSP245 in the 2030s and SSP585 &gt; SSP370 &gt; SSP126 &gt; SSP245 in the 2050s, indicating that as the greenhouse gas emissions increase, the distribution of P. clarkii was likely to increase. It was of note that the area of high-suitability distribution for SSP585 greatly increased, but for SSP245 greatly decreased in the 2050s. This suggested that we should attach great importance to the ecological risk of crayfish in China and prevent the blind development of the industry.</div>

Maxent Model Predictions of Climate Change Impacts on the Suitable Distribution of Crayfish Aquaculture in China

Background: Habitat fragmentation and human encroachment of the Asiatic black bear (Ursus thibetanus) in the Sikkim Himalaya has resulted in isolation of populations along with human-wildlife conflict. Frequent crop and livestock depredation incidents have resulted in many farmers giving up their farming practices. Though bear presence in these regions is frequent, studies on migratory route and habitat corridors are limited. This study provides spatial mapping of habitat and corridor connectivity for Asiatic black bear with focus on Fambonglho Wildlife Sanctuary (FWLS).
&nbsp;
Method: Habitat suitability raster generated by MaxEnt software from 64 Asiatic black bear occurrence records and 48 environmental variables was used as a conductance layer in Circuitscape environment for modeling potential movement routes. Indigenously obtained data from structured survey of 117 farmers around FWLS was analyzed in IBM-SPSS framework for corridor connectivity and habitat impacts.
&nbsp;
Result: The model had an overall accuracy of 96.37% with a Kappa Coefficient of 0.9621. Corridors that connect FWLS, Kyongnosla Alpine Sanctuary and Pangolakha Wildlife Sanctuaries have been found to be highly developed, whereas bottlenecks have been observed on the highways and rivers like Teesta River and Rangeet River. The surveys revealed a high level of awareness amongst the local community regarding existence of wildlife corridors; only 8.5% of the survey respondents were unaware. Areas like Barapathing Reserve Forest, Bulbulay Reserve Forest and Assam Reserve Forest, critical for connectivity, remain outside protected boundaries, necessitating immediate conservation action. A p-value &lt;0.005 confirmed statistically significant corridor usage patterns.
