<div>Background: Chillies are one of the most widely used spices and a commercial crop. It is the most widely used universal spice and is named as the wonder spice. Tripura is one of the largest producers of a commercial crop of chilli in the entire north eastern state. Commercial cultivation of chilli is very profitable and can expect high revenue because of high market value or market demand in local markets. Under this backdrop, the paper attempts to study the economics of chilli production in Tripura, India. 
 
Methods: This study was conducted on a sample of 150 chilli growers in Dhalai district, West Tripura and the Sipahijala district of Tripura during 2019-20 as it is the highest chilli growing area. A personal interview method was used to collect the data and suitable statistical tools were used for analyzing the data. The cost of cultivation for chilli was calculated by using the CACP (Commission on Agriculture Cost and Prices) approach. 
 
Result: The study revealed that the majority of the respondents were under the age of 54 years, belonged to the schedule tribe category i.e., 48.66 per cent (24.33) followed by the general category i.e., 34.66 (17.33) and the schedule caste category i.e., 16.66 per cent (8.33). All the respondents were from farming families, mainly belonging to marginal and small land holdings. It has been observed that the maximum cost was incurred on total family labour, i.e., Rs. 41230.11, Rs. 56769.23 and Rs. 51972.17 respectively in West Tripura, Unakoti and South Tripura, whereas in the case of total hired labour cost, no was involved by the growers of South Tripura district. The total production of chilli was 2894.45 kg/ha and the overall return over cost C was determined at Rs. 104572.94 per ha. In the different districts, the return per rupee over cost C ranged from 1.99 to 2.44.</div>

<div>Background: While Indian agriculture has achieved significant improvement in terms of major food crops, the performance of oilseed crops has lagged behind that of food grains. In the last 30 years, the acreage and production of oilseed crops have increased dramatically. Groundnut, soybean, sesame, rapeseed, mustard and castor seed are the six major oilseeds in India. In case of other oilseeds such as linseed, cottonseed, sunflower, safflower and Nigerseed are taken in, the total area occupied by oilseeds reaches roughly 20% of the net cultivated area. 
 
Methods: The study was based on primary data sources. Raigarh district was selected purposively because it contributed highest area of groundnut. In the Raigarh district Baramkela block selected for further study. Respondent were selected according to proportionate sampling criteria (10 per cent) in the study area. For the analysis of the cost of cultivation, Commission for Agricultural Costs and Prices (CACP) method was used. 
 
Result: The study was conducted for analysis of cost and return of groundnut in Raigarh district of Chhattisgarh. The study was found groundnut is major growing oilseed in the Raigarh district. The overall cost of cultivation was observed at 50374.09 Rs. per hectare. The total cost of cultivation shows increasing with farm size. The cost per quintal groundnut production was observed 3159.47 Rs. The overall gross return and net return of groundnut were estimated at 75451.38 Rs. per hectare and 28010.10 Rs. hectare. The overall input-output ratio for the above cost was found to be 1:1.50.&nbsp;</div>

Cost and Return Analysis of Groundnut (Arachis hypogaea) Cultivation in Raigarh District of Chhattisgarh

<div>Background: Sorghum is a heat and drought resistant crop that is widely grown in arid and semi-arid regions for food, feed and bio-energy. The sorghum crop is important to the majority of farmers for income, nutritional security and environmental sustainability. They grow sorghum not for profit, but because it is the only crop that can withstand the harsh climatic conditions that exist. The present study aimed to investigate the economics of sorghum in the Bhilwara district of Rajasthan during the year 2020-21 using primary data from 60 sample households from four different villages. 
 
Methods: The standard cost concept method of the Commission for Agricultural Cost and Price (CACP) was used to calculate the cost of cultivation (COC) of sorghum crop. It includes Cost A1, Cost A2, Cost B1, Cost B2, Cost C1, Cost C2 and Cost C3. Farm income measures, which include gross income, farm business income, family labour income and net income, are used to determine crop profitability and return on investment. 
 
Result: The results of study revealed that total cost (Cost C2) of sorghum cultivation per ha was found to be ₹ 25149.69. The cost of producing one quintal of sorghum was calculated to be ₹ 1383.18. Sorghum cultivation generated a net income, farm business income and family labour income of ₹ 23658.44, ₹ 30680.32 and ₹ 26527.74 per ha, respectively.</div>
