Investigations were undertaken during summer 1995 and Kharif 1995. A plant population of 40 plants m−2 increased leaf area index (LAI), net assimilation rate (NAR) and grain yield during both the seasons. Highest number of root nodules per plant, crop growth rate (CGR), specific leaf weight (SLW) and relative growth rate (RGR) were maximum at higher plant density (50 plants m−2). Seed treatment with ammonium molybdate 25 ppm + ZnSO4 100 ppm + FeSO4 100 ppm and foliar application of nutrients with DAP 1%+ urea 0.5% + MgSO40.5% + ZnSO40.25% recorded significantly highest leaf area index, specific leaf weight, crop growth rate relative growth rate, net assimilation rate and grain yield of black gram during both the seasons.
