Character association analysis among important morphological and physiological attributes influencing groundnut yield and drought tolerance In seven parents and 21F1, hybrids indicated that mature pods per plant, harvest Index and pecific leaf area had positive and significant correlation with kernel yield per plant. Carbon isotope discrimination (Δ), an indirect measure of water use efficiency exhibited a positive and significant genotypic association with specific leaf area. Specific leaf area and Δ had positive association with harvest. Index, negative association between root dry mass and harvest index was also observed. The study indicated the need for careful consideration of association between traits conferring drought tolerance and harvest index/kernel yield In breeding programs intended to improve drought tolerance of genotypes.
