In order to study the value of early generation bulk yield testing for predicting the yield potential of crosses In later generations, 21 groundnut crosses (In F1, F2 and F2 generation) were studied in a replicated bulk yield test during post rainy season of 1995 and rainy season of 1996. Positive and significant correlations between kernel yields of bulk F1 Vs F2 and F2 Vs F3 generations indicated that yield test of an early generation bulk of groundnuts can be used for identification of potential crosses in early generations. The relative ranking of crosses either in F1 and F2 (or) F2 and F3 (or) both tests was found to be a suitable Index to decide whether a cross should be persued or discarded in early generations.
