A study was conducted during late kharif 1996 and 1997 under rainfed condition involving a local and two improved cultivars of horsegram sown at three different dates were evaluated for incidence of powdery mildew and yellow mosaic virus (YMV) diseases. The horsegram sown during first fortnight of August and September yielded significantly higher grain and busa yield compared to the crop sown during first fortnight of October, The severity of the diseases were found higher in crops sown during first fortnight of October as compared to the crop sown during first fortnight of August and September, The performance of the improved horsegram cultivars, BGM-1 and A-4-6-4-2 was superior at all dates of sowing compared to the local cultivar inspite of higher disease incidence.
