Interspecific hybridization between Vigna radiata and Vigna mungo resulted in the Fls which were more vigorous but had negative heterosis for most of the quantitative characters studied. They qualitatively and quantitatively resembled blackgram. Several abnormalities were observed in sporad formation, which caused high pollen sterility in F1s. In F2 generation, the hybrids segregated into greengram and blackgram types. It was also observed that polled fertility was high compared to Fls, Crossing with blackgram as female parent was unsuccessful.
