An investigation was conducted in blackgram to estimate the components of genetic variance for yield and related characters using NCD-II. The additive genetic variance (σ2A) was higher than the dominance genetic variance (σ2D) for all the characters studied. Days to maturity, plant height clusters per plant, pods per plant and grain yield were governed by both additive and nonaddihve gene action. Biparental intermating may be suggested for exploiting both types of genetic variances.
