An efficient regeneration system through somatic embryogenesis has been developed for the peanut cultivar JL-24. The explant, mature zygotic embryos were cultured on MS medium supplementeci with different concentrations of 2,4–0 in dark for 12 days followed by exposure to light for five weeks. The highest number of somatic embryos were observed in 15 mg/1 2,4–0. The embryos were germinated on MS medium without any growth regulators. Further the embryos were grown on different concentrations of IBA and 12 mg IBAII gave the best results. The rooted seedlings were hardended and transferred to the soil.
