Genetic variability, heritability and genetic advance for leaf. pod and seed protein content were studied in F2 generation of five inter-varietal crosses of cowpea viz., (1) COVU 623 x CO2 (2) COVU 623 xCO3 COVU 623 x CO4 (4) COVU 623 x PAlYUR 1 (5) COVU 623 x KM 1. Of the five crosses studied, crosses 3, 4 and 5 recorded high heritability coupled with moderate genetic ad vance indicating that both additive as well as dominant gene action might be involved in controlling these traits
