In field experiment involving six Clcer arietinum I. genotypr;s and 0 and 52 kg N/ha. traits related to growth and nitrogen assimilation along with seed yield were observed during post rainy seasons of 1994–95 and 1995–96. There Was a variable genotypic response for nitrogen input High nitrogen resulted in increased dry matter accumulation and rale of dry matter accumulation, Leaf area, leaf area duration, nitrate reductase activity, grain nitrogen and total nitrogen per unit area. Relative plant growth rate net assimilation rate and extent of nodulation decreased under higher nitrogen levels. Amongst genotypes, K 850 and PDG 83–13 had maximum yinld ann maximum yield/kg of nitrogen application
