A field experiment was conducted to study the effect of vermicompost alone or in combination with fertilizer on greengram. Significant increase in yield, nutrient (N and P) uptake and nodulation was observed following combine use of fertilizer and vermicompost. Soil organic carbon, available N, P and K status in soil improved significantly with vermicompost alone or in combination with fertilizer. Results clearly indicated the possibility of saving 25 to 50 per cent fertilizer through the addition of 2.5 t ha−1 vermicompost and overall improvement in soil health.
