A field experiment was conducted during summer 2000 to ascertain the influence of foliar application of nitrogen to increase the yield of green gram. The results showed that the external application of N @ 10 kg ha−1 each a 50 per cent flowering and pod development stages along with basal application of 25:50 kg N and P2O5 ha−1 had a marked increase in yield components (number of pods plant−1, number of seeds pod−1 and pod length), seed and haulm yield. The increase in yield were 45.8 per cent, 21.5 per cent and 2.7 per cent over no N (control), basal application alone (25:50 kg Nand P2O5 ha−1) and basal + DAP foliar spray (2%) twice respectively. DAP spray twice along with basal application closely followed the treatment and which were at par, However, there was no significant difference between basal application, foliar application and between stages of application.
