SCIENTIFIC RATIONALITY OF INDIGENOUS GRAIN STORAGE PRACTICES PRACTISED BY RURAL WOMEN
1College of Home Science, C.C.S, HAU, Hisar-125 004, India
ABSTRACT
A proportionate sample of 261 women respondents from the three villages of Haryana was drawn randomly for the study of grain storage. It was found that storage of grains in gunny bags (33.3%) primarily for household consumption was the most common method followed by local or traditional method using sand, leaves of ‘Neem’ match sticks etc. Metallic bin which is a scientific practice was found to be relevant practice for storage of food grains whereas all other methods of storage couldn't get much relevance. Most of the scientists found all the purposes of storing e.g. for seed (93%), daily consumption (99%) and for increase price (80%) as rational because purpose may vary with the need of the family
