COMBINING ABILITY ANALYSIS FOR PANICLE TRAITS IN PEARL MILLET*
1Department of Plant Breeding,
C.C.S. Haryana Agricultural University, Hisar - 125001, India
ABSTRACT
In a study of diallel analysis in pearl millet a 10 x 10 combination was studied to know the combining ability estimates. Variance due to general and specific combining ability were significant for yield and other traits, indicating the importance of both additive and non-additive gene effects in the inheritance of these traits. Population RVPT 93 (102), ICMV 95778 and ICMV 95501 and crosses HP 8601 x ICMV 95778 and ICMV 91450 x ICMV 95501 were identified as the most prornisinB on the basis of per se and combining ability effects. Hence, these populations and crosses represented il good choice to initiate inter and intra population improvement programme.
