Himachal Pradesh KrishiVishvavidyalaya,Palampur -176062, India
ABSTRACT
Combining ability studies were conducted in a 10 x 10 diallel crosses (excluding reciprocals) among ten inbred parents and F 1 cross combinations for yiekl and some growth parameters. The studies revealed significant GCA and SCA variance estimates for an the characters studied. Preponderace of non-additive gene effects was observed in the expression of an the traits studied. Parent P 10 was found to be good general combiner for an the growth parameters while P 2 was good for grain yield and leaf growth rate. Cross combination P 3 x P 8 had good SCA effects for an the traits studied and is expected to yield segregants having desirable character associations of yieldwith growth parameters. Cross combinations P 4 x P 6, P 5 x P 8 and P 5x P 7 are desirable for higher grain yield
