Field trial was conducted during boro season (December – March) in last two consecutive years in the farmer’s field of West Tripura District to study the effect of integrated use of chemical fertilizers(NPK) at different levels and bioinoculants (Azospirillum brasilense and Azotobacter chroococcum) on growth, nitrate assimilation [viz., in vivo nitrate reductase (NR) activity], soluble protein and yield of Oryza sativa L. The results showed that on integrated use with bioinculants, the chemical fertilizer (urea-N) instead of 100% recommended dose (80 Kg N ha-1), 75% recommended dose (60 Kg N ha-1) gave better result. This indicated potentiality of integrated use of chemical fertilizer and bioinoculants (Azospirillum brasilense and Azotobacter chroococcum) and it can save 20 Kg N ha-1. Further, in field conditions, Azospirillum brasilense was found more effective than Azotobacter chroococcum.
