<div>Background: The use of wrapping material during storage of cut flowers creates a modified atmosphere which reduces flower metabolism during storage, thereby slowing carbohydrate consumption as respiratory substrate. The main problem related to dry storage is moisture loss or desiccation. Keeping in view the above aspects, the present study was conducted to enhance the shelf life of tuberose. 
 
Methods: The experiment was carried out at Post-Harvest Laboratory of Department of Horticulture, COA, CCS HAU, Hisar during the cropping season (March to September) of year 2019. It was laid out in CRD (factorial) with three replications and twenty-four treatment combinations, comprising of six wrapping materials (newspaper, butter paper, chart sheet, low density polyethylene of 100&micro;, high density polyethylene of 200&micro; and control as without wrapping) and four storage time (1, 4, 7 and 10 days), were tested. After harvesting, cut spikes were wrapped in wrapping materials and kept in cold-store at low temperature (less than 5&deg;C), thereafter cut spikes were placed in vase solution (4% sucrose plus 300 ppm 8-HQC) for recording observations on floral parameters.&nbsp; 
 
Result: Among different wrapping materials, the butter paper wrapped cut spikes observed better in most of the parameters followed by LDPE (100&micro;) wrapped cut spikes. Among the storage time, storage of cut spikes for 1 day observed better in most of &nbsp;the parameters except time taken up to opening of first pair of florets and total post-harvest life. Overall, butter paper wrapped cut spikes stored for 1 day performed better in term of floret diameter (46.73 mm), floret length (56.10 mm), floret longevity (2.89 days), appearance (3.70/5.0 scale), florets opened at a time (32.30%), total opened florets (54.32%), marketable vase life (6.53 days), total vase life (11.17 days), weight loss (17.08%) and solution consumed (135.33 ml) by the spikes. However, the cut spikes wrapped in butter paper stored for 10 days were found better with early opening of first pair of florets (0.95 days) and maximum post-harvest life (20.10 days).</div>

<div>Effect of Wrapping Materials and Storage Time on Shelf Life of Tuberose (Polianthes tuberosa L.)</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">Tulips are one of the important bulbous flowers and valuable as cut flowers. Hence, the present experiment was conducted in order to study effect of different concentrations of gibberellic acid (GA), light sources, and cold storage time on tulip flowers. The results of the present study revealed that day to sprouting and flowering of tulip decreased by T1&times;G2B, and T1&times;G2B and T2&times;G2B conditions, respectively. Plant height as well as the first internode length was also increased at T1&times;CD and T2&times;CD conditions. Furthermore, all light treatments, except of the dark conditions, enhanced the amount of anthocyanin and chlorophyll content of tulips plants. Similarly, the same trend recorded for dry weight of leaf and bulb of tulip. In conclusion, application of different light qualities in combination with GA and cold storage treatments resulted in an improvement in the growth parameters as well as the morphological and the flowering characteristics of tulip.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">Morphology and responses of Tulipa gesneriana L. to light quality in combination with GA and cold storage time</div>

<div>Background: Llamas are becoming increasingly popular as livestock and as companion animals and their blood samples may require transportation over long distances and storage for extended periods prior to hematological analyses. Hematological parameters are influenced by a range of factors, including age, sex, diet and environment. Examining how these parameters change over time in stored blood samples can provide insights into the natural variation of these parameters in llamas, which can inform future research on the health and biology of these animals. This study sought to evaluate the stability of hematological markers at 0, 6, 12, 18, 24, 30, 36 and 42 hours of storage in blood samples of llamas (Lama glama) stored at 4&deg;C.&nbsp; 
 
Methods: The study was conducted on blood from eight clinically healthy llamas captivated at Sarajevo Zoo-Pionirska dolina, Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina. The effect of storage was observed on the following hematological parameters: Red Blood Cell count (RBC), hematocrit (HCT), hemoglobin (HGB), Mean Cell Volume (MCV), Mean Cell Hemoglobin (MCH), Mean Cell Hemoglobin Concentration (MCHC), Reticulocyte count (RETIC), White Blood Cell (WBC). White blood cell differentiation, absolute white blood cell counts, platelet count (PLT) and mean platelet volume (MPV) are also included. 
 
Result: During 42 hours of storage at 4&deg;C, it was discovered that red blood cells, hemoglobin, white blood cells, mean cell hemoglobin and reticulocyte, as well as the differentiation of white blood cells and measurement of their absolute values, remained stable. However, hematocrit increased at 12 h, while mean cell hemoglobin concentration decreased at 12 h when stored at 4&deg;C.</div>

Hematological Parameters on Llamas Blood Samples: Reliability Across a Range of Storage Times

In the present investigation a study was conducted to prepare fruit leathers from two different fruit pulps i.e. papaya and apple in various proportions. Further study was carried out in order to evaluate the vitamin C retention of prepared leathers at different temperatures such as 550C, 650C and 750C. All fruit leathers were then analyzed for their organoleptic characteristics such as color, flavor, taste, appearance and overall acceptability during storage period. A study was also carried out to evaluate the moisture retention in storage of the prepared leathers in different packaging materials such as LDPE, HDPE, aluminum foil and PET jar. The results revealed that the fruit leathers dried at 650C shown highest vitamin-C retention with better retention of sensory properties. All leathers remained unchanged during storage period but the leather stored in aluminum foil has shown a remarkable ranking as compared to others during storage period. LDPE package has shown greater moisture fluctuation, while aluminum foil shown significant moisture retention during storage. It was also observed during the study that all fruit leathers had identical color, flavor and appearance which cannot be compared with one another.

Studies on effect of drying temperature and storage time on vitamin-C&nbsp;retention capacity and moisture content of papaya-apple fruit leather

<div>Background: Cryopreservation is an invaluable technique yet it is also known to be detrimental to sperm function and fertility due to cryo-injury and concomitant generation of reactive oxidants. During laboratory manipulation for the cryopreservation and freeze-thaw process, spermatozoa undergo osmotic stress, ionic imbalance, metabolic decoupling, membrane phase transition, destabilization of the cytoskeleton and antioxidant depletion which communally hampers the semen quality. 
 
Methods: With the aim of determining implications of cryopreservation and storage, semen samples were collected by artificial vagina technique from 12 Murrah bulls and subsequently examined at 0 hour (before cryopreservation) and at 24 hour, 1 month and 2 month of storage for various seminal attributes. Simultaneously seminal plasma was separated and preserved at -20oC till the analysis of biochemical indicators of semen quality viz., nitric oxide (NO), total antioxidant quantity (TAC) and lipid peroxidation status (TBARS).&nbsp; 
 
Result: A sharp reduction (p&lt;0.01) in the semen quality was observed only at 24 h after cryopreservation except for viability. Significant reduction (p&lt;0.05) in viable counts was observed up to 1 month interval. The capacitated sperm percentage was greater (p&lt;0.01) in the cryopreserved semen as compared to fresh ejaculate. The mean&plusmn;SE levels of NO (&mu;mol/L), TAC and TBARS (Units/ml) was 2.31&plusmn;0.27, 0.73&plusmn;0.04 and 1.11&plusmn;0.16 respectively in seminal plasma of neat semen stored at -20oC, while the values in the extended seminal plasma after cryopreservation was 2.37&plusmn;0.31, 0.44&plusmn;0.03 and 0.65&plusmn;0.03 respectively. So it can be inferred that most of the damage encountered by spermatozoa is during the initial period of freezing, but the damage associated by various stressors cannot be ignored.</div>

<div style="text-align:justify">Time Dependent Impact of Reactive Oxidants on Seminal Attributes of Murrah Bull during Cryopreservation and Storage</div>

<div>Background: A large area of the maize production in Indo-Gangetic plains of India exposes alternative and combination of prolonged drought spells and heavy rainfall situation due to uncertainty of monsoon patterns. In such context, breeding for maize hybrids with cross-tolerant to both low and excess soil moisture stresses remain the ultimate alternative. 
 
Methods: Evaluation of 75 maize hybrids planted at Banaras Hindu University, India during the subsequent Rabi and Kharif seasons of 2017 and 2018, respectively. The hybrids were evaluated for acquiring information on inter-trait associations among yield and yield-related traits under different soil moisture regimes. The trials were planted in alpha-lattice design and managed stress was imposed and data recorded. 
 
Result: As our investigation was the evident of weak correlations among the traits studied, genotype &times; trait (GT) biplots are not advisable to select/ discard the genotypes under moisture stress conditions. The goodness of fit for GT biplots constructed under studied moisture conditions were almost poor because of fair to moderate correlations among the traits. To accomplish this problem of weak associations, genotype &times; yield &times; trait (GYT) technique was advisable to perform the precise selection of genotypes under studied environments. The investigation emphasized on accuracy and adequacy in implementing of GYT biplots for characterizing and selecting suitable hybrids.</div>

Study on Applicability of Genotype &times; Yield &times; Trait (GYT) Biplots over Genotype &times; Trait (GT) Biplots in Selection of Maize Hybrids across Soil Moisture Regimes

<div>Background: Among several reasons for low productivity in mungbean, various biotic and abiotic factors play a major role. Although intensive research work has been done on genetic architecture of yield and yield attributes of mungbean but limited work was done on yield attributes along with water use efficiency (WUE) and heat stress tolerance related traits. The present study is aimed to identify the genetic potential of mungbean genotypes with high yield and drought and heat stress tolerance. 
 
Methods: The F2 seed was harvested from selfed F1 population during 2017-18 from three superior crosses viz., ML 267&times;LGG 528, MGG 390&times;LM 95 and LM 95&times;EC 362096. These crosses were selected based on their per se performance of yield, yield attributes and WUE related traits. Genetic analysis was carried out in F2 populations of three crosses for fourteen quantitative characters to identify the number of transgressive segregants in desirable direction. 
 
Result: A good number of transgressive segregants in desirable direction were observed for plant height, number of pods per cluster, harvest index, SLA, SLW and relative injury in the cross ML 267&times;LGG 528: for plant height, number of branches per plant, SCMR, SLA, SLW and relative injury in the cross MGG 390&times;LM 95 and for plant height, number of pods per cluster, number of pods per plant SCMR, SLA, SLW, relative injury and seed yield in the cross LM 95&times;EC 362096.</div>

Transgressive Segregants in F2 Populations of Three Superior Crosses viz., ML 267&times;LGG 528, MGG 390&times;LM 95, LM 95&times;EC 362096 in Mungbean

<div>Background: Oilseeds are very sensitive to the adverse environmental conditions. The oil inside the seeds will get oxidized easily and deteriorate the seed health during storage. Diverse environmental conditions such as temperature, pests and diseases, seed oil and moisture content, mechanical damages, storage time and relative humidity of store may affect the viability of seeds. Therefore, the present study aimed to study the effect of pre-storage seed treatments on the storage potential in soybean seed. 
 
Methods: The study was carried out during rabi 2020-21 and onwards at the Department of Seed Science and Technology, College of Agriculture, Junagadh Agricultural University, Junagadh. The seeds of two soybean varieties (V1: GJS 3 and V2: JS 335) treated with different pre storage dry dressing seed treatments (S1: Control (untreated seed), S2: Boric acid powder @ 5 g/kg seed, S3: Neem kernel powder @ 5 g/kg seed, S4: Wood ash @ 5 g/kg seed and S5: Calcium hypochlorite @ 5 g/kg seed) were stored after packing in three containers (C1: Aluminium foil bag, C2: Non-wooven cloth bag and C3: Air tight plastic containers). The seeds were&nbsp; evaluated for seed quality parameters viz., seed moisture content (%), germination percentage (%), seedling length (cm), seedling dry weight (mg), seedling vigour index &ndash; I and seedling vigour index - II &nbsp;up to eight month of storage at interval of two month after storage following Completely Randomized Design (Factorial) repeated three times. 
 
Results: Germination percentage, seedling length, seedling dry weight, seedling vigour index I and seedling vigour index II were decreased with increased in storage period, while seed moisture content was increased with increased in storage period, thus was concluded that the quality of seed degraded in storage condition. In the storage condition, seeds of JS 335 treated with wood ash @ 5 g/kg seed and packed in air tight plastic container recorded the maximum germination percentage and was statistically at par with seeds of JS 335 treated with wood ash @ 5 g/kg seed and packed in aluminium foil bag. Seeds of JS 335 treated with wood ash @ 5 g/kg seed and packed in aluminium foil bag recorded the maximum seedling length, seedling dry weight, seedling vigour index I and seedling vigour index II.</div>

Effect of Pre-storage Seed Treatments on the Storage Potential in Soybean Seed [Glycine max (L.) Merill]

<div style="text-align:justify">The moisture content of grains, oxygen and carbon dioxide concentration in storage environment affects the storage life of food grains. The moisture content affects on storability of food grains severely, hence the storage structures must be provided with sufficient protection from moisture exchange between grain and atmosphere. The insect and pests grows very fast in presence of oxygen and moisture in the storage environment. The humid climate provides favorable conditions to moulds and insects to grow in most of the food grains and oilseeds. The grains exposed to these favorable environment further not useful for human consumptions. Many harmful chemicals like aflatoxins are formed in oilseeds and cereals. The emerging hermatic storage is highly effective technology to prevent the spoilage of grains without use of any harmful fumigants and chemicals, hence it is popularly known as organic storage technology. In this technology the flow of oxygen and water from external environment is fully controlled by impermeable, triple layer hermatic plastic bags.</div>

Hermetic Storage Technology for Food Grains: New Beginning of Organic and Safe Storage for Farmers and Consumers: A Review

Background: Seed deterioration is an unavoidable process during seed storage resulting in declined germination and vigour of the seeds and the seeds have different storage potential under different storage condition. Maintenance of germination and vigour requires new alternative method of storage conditions viz., packaging material and temperature conditions. Storage potential of groundnut seeds cv. VRI 8 and the changes associated with the seeds stored under different storage conditions were investigated in this study. 
 
Methods: The efficiency of modified atmospheric storage with different combination of CO2, N2 and O2 and vacuum packaging under different storage temperature (25&deg;C, 5&deg;C and -5&deg;C) for maintaining the storage behaviour of seeds up to 8 months were evaluated and the gas mixture was checked in gas analyzer at regular intervals.&nbsp; 
 
Result: The seeds stored under modified atmospheric storage (MAS) condition with a gas mixture of 0% CO2, 100% N2 and 0% O2 at -5&deg;C temperature condition, maintained germination and seed vigour above 70% with a minimum increase in seed moisture content even after 8 months of storage and even when these seeds kept under ambient condition also maintained germination above 70% after 8 months of storage while the seeds stored under ambient condition registered less germination of below 70% by 6 months of storage itself. Down-regulation of antioxidant defence system viz., catalase and peroxidase activity and the minimum accumulation of malondialdehyde and H202 content in the embryo indicated the less oxidative damage in the seeds stored under MAS compared to ambient condition. Thus, the study highlighted that the seeds have better storage potential under modified atmospheric storage condition with low atmospheric temperature through maintaining the seed quality by reducing their metabolic activity and storing these seeds under ambient condition could be a cost-effective method.
