Background: Agriculture supports the livelihood of over 58% of India’s population and contributes about 18% to the national GDP, emphasizing the need to shift from subsistence farming to agribusiness-oriented development. The Agri-clinics and agri-business centres (ACABC) scheme, implemented through nodal agencies such as MANAGE, aims to strengthen the technical and managerial competencies of agricultural graduates. However, only about 29% of trained candidates have successfully established agribusiness ventures, indicating the need for improvements in policy and implementation. The present study analyses the impact of the ACABC scheme on agribusiness establishments in Andhra Pradesh, India.

Methods: The study assessed beneficiary perceptions and expectations using the SERVQUAL model. Reliability and validity of the scales were tested using Cronbach’s alpha and gap analysis was conducted across five service quality dimensions. A chi-square test of independence was employed to examine whether beneficiary perception ratings differ across service quality dimensions.

Result: All Cronbach’s alpha values exceeded 0.70, indicating that both expectation and perception scales were internally consistent and theoretically valid. SERVQUAL gap analysis revealed negative gap scores across all five dimensions, suggesting that service performance falls short of beneficiaries’ expectations. The highest gaps were observed in reliability (-0.56) and responsiveness (-0.55), indicating delays in loan processing and inadequate service responsiveness. A chi-square test of independence found no statistically significant association between SERVQUAL dimension and perception-level category (χ2 = 7.60, df = 8, p = 0.474), indicating that beneficiaries’ perception ratings are broadly similar in distribution across all five dimensions.
