Background: Climate change and associated prolonged meteorological drought have affected crop productivity and food security for decades across the world. Most developing counties including Uganda are majorly affected due to their limited social, economic and technical capacity in climate change mitigation. Isingiro district for instance, is located in the Ugandan dry cattle corridor and has been affected by prolonged meteorological drought resulting in limited crop productivity and food insecurity for the last four decades. The extent to which meteorological drought has affected Isingiro district is not well documented hence the need for this study. The study aimed at mapping meteorological drought-vulnerable extent for the selected six sub-counties of Isingiro District, South Western Uganda.&nbsp; 
 
Methods: Precipitation datasets from 1982-2022 were downloaded from NASA powers website. SPI calculator, QGIS 3.4 and ArcGIS10 software were used to calculate SPI values and map the extent of meteorological drought in the selected sub counties.&nbsp; 
 
Result: Results show increasing average annual negative and extreme meteorological vulnerability following the order: Masha -2.57 &gt; Mbaare -2.40 &gt; Kikagate -2.28 &gt; Isingiro Town Council -2.26 = Rushasha -2.26 &gt; Kashumba -2.05 indicating extremely high vulnerability of the study sub counties to meteorological drought. Results are discussed, conclusions and recommendations are provided in the manuscript.

Mapping Meteorological Drought-vulnerability Extent for Isingiro District (1982-2022)

Background: Assessing the forest suitability of soils is one of the key areas of agroforestry science. Research in this direction makes it possible to characterize areas where tree and shrub vegetation does not grow under natural conditions. The research carried out makes it possible to assess the possibilities of afforestation in the area of interest; they contribute to the perception of landscape diversity in the context of the reclamation efficiency of the created systems of protective forest plantings, their productivity and durability. Identification of soil suitability for forests is closely related to the assessment of soil quality and fertility. The study of forest suitability of soils has a pronounced regional aspect. This article presents materials from cartographic studies of the dry steppe zone of the Volgograd region of the Russian Federation. The study region is characterized by a wide variety of soil cover. Dark chestnut, chestnut soils and light chestnut soils are common in this zone. The processes of erosion, salinizationand deflation make a great contribution to the diversity of soil complexes. 
 
Methods: In this work, the cartographic research method is the main one. Achieving the research goal, creating a cartographic model of the forest vegetation properties of the study area, was carried out in three stages. At the first stage, the contours of the soil map at a scale of 1:400000 were classified into forest suitability groups. During the second stage, based on the functionality of the QGIS software package, new soil contours were created. At the third stage, area characteristics were taken, share parameters were calculated and an analysis of changes in soil cover was carried out in natural and economic areas. The research materials presented in this article were obtained during the implementation of the state task of the research work of the FSC of Agroecology RAS. The research period is from 2021-08 to 2023-11. 
 
Result: The result of the research is the creation of a cartographic model of the forest suitability of soils in the dry steppe zone of the Volgograd region. Based on measuring the areas of soil contours for each of the 17 administrative districts, the ratio of groups of forest suitability of soils was established. The revealed value of the share indicator for the study area as a whole is as follows: soils I, forest suitability groups occupy 10.4% of the territory; II -9.3%; III - 68.3%; IV - 12%. The data obtained are necessary for planning agroforestry work in the study area.

Assessment of Forest Suitability of Soils in the Dry Steppe Zone of the Volgograd Region

Background: Groundnut, commonly known as peanut, is a significant oil, food and feed legume crop grown in all seasons in Tamil Nadu, including kharif, rabi and summer and it is cultivated both under irrigated and rainfed conditions in all the seasons at Thiruvannamlai district. One of the most important applications of remote sensing in agriculture is a Crop Acreage and Production Estimation (CAPE). The CAPE&rsquo;s main goal is to estimate crop acreage and production of important crops, so that advanced food production, distribution and supply data were achieved.&nbsp; 
 
Methods: Multi-temporal Sentinel 1A SAR IW- GRD data with 20 m spatial resolution and 12 days temporal resolution of Vertical - Horizontal (V-H) polarization were downloaded for the period of 4th October 2020 to 8th January 2021 to have the full coverage during the crop growth period in the study area used for this work. Crop backscattering and multi-temporal features were extracted from MAPscape 5.2 automated pre-processing tool and its classified using supervised maximum likelihood classification for groundnut acreage extraction for Thiruvannamalai district. 
 
Result: The rabi groundnut area of Thiruvannamalai district of Tamil Nadu was estimated using SAR Sentinel-1A data as 32298 ha with a higher accuracy percentage of 87.4 and kappa coefficient of 0.75.
