An Investigation was taken up with seven parents and 21 F1 and F2 crosses to study heterosis and inbreeding depression for kernel yield and oil content and also to find out whether heterosis was under the control of additive x additive gene action which is more valuable to groundnut breeder. Tirupati lxTMV2-NLM exhibited high heterosis followed by high inbreeding depression for kernel yield and oil content. But TAG 24xJL24, ICGV 86031 x TG 26, ICG 2716xICGV 86031 and ICG 2716xTG26 exhibited high heterosis in F1 as well as F2 which suggested the importance of additive x additive gene action in the expression of heterosis in those crosses. The heterosis for oil content in the crosses was low and by and large in negative over better parent.
