Five genotypes as lines and two varieties as testers of greengram (Vigna radiata L. Wilczek) were studied in line x tester analysis. The study reveals tht the gene action involved in controlling characters namely, plant height, number of branches per plant, number of clusters per plant, number of pods per plant and seed yield per plant is non-additive gene action. The parents Pusa 9531, HUM 1 and Vamban 1 recorded superior mean performance for seed yield per plant, number of clusters per plant and number of pods per plant. The parent CO 5 recorded. superior mean performance for all characters. The parent KM 2163 showed good combining ability for all characters except plant height and high mean for number of clusters per plant and pods per plant. The cross Vamban 1 x KM 2163 and CO 5 x KM 2163 showed superior mean performance for all the characters except plant height and non-significant sea for all the characters. The gene action involved in these crosses might be of additive type. Hence, this cross could be subjected to further selection to obtain high yielding segregants through pedigree breeding programme.
