Combining ability analysis was undertaken in 10 x 10 diallel set for seed yield and its components characters. The mean sum of squares due to general and'specific combining ability variances were highly significant for all the characters studied in both the generations except for seeds/pod in F1 and F2 in general combining ability indicating the role of additive as well as non additive gene effects for the expression of these characters. The parents PDP 52 and Azad PI were the best general combiners for seed yield/plant and also for one other character. Three combinations PDP-23 x PDP-52 in F1, and PDP-33 x PDP-55 and PDP-41 x PDP-55 in F2 which exhibits desirable significant sca effects for three or four characters, respectively may be utilized for further breeding programme.
