GENETIC VARIABILITY AND CORRELATION STUDIES AMONG FIS AND PARENTS IN GROUNDNUT (ARACHIS HYPOGAEA L.)
1Department of Genetics and Plant Breeding.
Regional Agricultural Research Station, Tirupati - 517 502. India
ABSTRACT
High estimates of PCV and GCV, heritability (broadsense) and genetic advance as percentage of mean (GAM) were observed for number of secondaries per plant, number of mature pods per plant, pod yield per plant. It indicates the role of additive gene action and hence, the usefulness of phenotypic selection for bringing improvement. Pod yield showed highly significant positive association with number of secondaries per plant (0.775), number of mature pods per plant (0.488), kernel yield per plant (0.807), pod length (0.696), haulms weight per plant (0.848) and harvest index (0.767). Positive significant regression coefficients between pod yield per plant and secondaries per plant (r2 = 0.6734), kernel yield per plant (r2 = 0.967), pod length (r2 = 0.6334) and haulms weight (r2 = 0.7959) indicated that the pod yield could be increased by improving these characters.
