An investigation was earned out to induce variability in the groundnut variety VRI 2 through chemical mutagens i.e. EMS, DES and colchicines. The LD50 values were fixed as 0.6 per cent, 1.2 per cent, 0.8 per cent for EMS, DES and colchicine respectivety. The results showed increased genotypic variability for the characters like number of pods per plant, pod yield per plant and seed yield per plant. For most of the characters studied in M2 generation the heritability and genetic advance as per cent of mean was moderate to high.
