EFFECf OF AGE, DIAMETER CLASS AND GROWfH REGULATORS ON ROOTING OF SHISHAM (DALBERGIA SISSOO ROXB.)

The study comprised of five levels of growth regulator concentrations viz., 200, 400, 600, 800 and 1000 ppm, two diameter classes (thin and thick) from three age groups of 10, 20 and 30 years. The results revealed that the response of branch cuttings to synthesize auxins was extremely variable with respect to concentration, diameter class and age of mother tree. The branch cuttings of 10 years age group responded more to all growth hormones as compared to 20 and 30 years age classes. The cuttings of all age groups and diameter classes at 200 ppm showed superior results in form of rooting percentage, root length and number of buds sprouted in comparison to other concentration levels. The sprouting percentage in 10 years age group was maximum under IBA followed by NAA, GA, IAA and IPA in thin as well as thick diameter class, where as, rooting percentage followed the trend: GA > IAA > NAA > IPA > IBA and root length was in the order of IPA > GA > IAA > NAA > IBA.
