A field experiment conducted during the season of 1998–99 showed that number of nodules per plant and branching were significantly higher under package of practice recommended by ICRISAT Patancheru. Hyderabad (PI) when compared with package of practice recommended by Department of Agriculture, Maharashtra State, Pune (P2). Higher branching at all stages of growth, significantly improved dry pod yield/ha. In general, low branching up to 50th day in both the package of practices was at par. The genotypes ICGS-11, ICGS-21 and ICGS-44 produced significantly higher nodules/plant and higher dry pod yield/ha. Increased biomass were noticed with regard to branching which resulted in higher dry pod yieldlha
