Abstract

Genetic variability and heritability were estimated in 29 varieties of clusterbean grown during kharif, 2004. Variability was high for all the characters studied except number of seeds per pod and days to 50% flowering. High heritability coupled with high genetic advance was observed for plant height, number of pod clusters per plant, number of pods per cluster, pod weight, pod length, number of pods per plant and yield per plant indicating the presence of additive gene action in the expression of these characters. High estimates of genotypic coefficient of variation, heritability and genetic advance recorded for number of pod clusters per plant, number of pods per plant, pods per cluster and yield per plant suggest the scope for improvement of these characters through selection.
