Random Amplified Polymorphic DNA fingerprinting assays can be used to discriminate between
the serovars of Leptospira. Comparative analysis of the fingerprints obtained from the representative strains of reference serovars of Leptospira interrogans has revealed specific DNA fragments. It was shown to be a useful approach for rapid diagnosis and identification of the L. interrogans and for rapid serovar determination of Leptospires without need for prior DNA sequence
