Benefit-cost and constraints analysis of beekeeping in green revolution province of India
On the occasion of Green Revolution Golden Jubilee celebration the present study was undertaken to understand the nitty-gritty of agri-diversification vis-à-vis beekeeping. Two green revolution states i.e. Punjab and Haryana were purposively selected but in Haryana no active beekeepers were found in or around the randomly selected villages and so 9 respondents were selected from Punjab through snowball sampling method. For 10 frames and 25 beehives model B: C ratio was 1.54, which depicted that beekeeping was profitable venture in the region. Low price of honey and its by-products (W=62)’ was rated as most serious constraints by the beekeepers. It can be concluded that if the perceived constraints are resolved then the prospects of beekeeping would further increase in the study locale.
