A decision making index (DMI) also has been developed for different household decisions. A survey in Muzaffarnagar district of Uttar Pradesh revealed that in spite of their significant contribution in economic activities of the family, women do not enjoy sufficient autonomy/ independence in talking different household economic decisions in the family. The patriarchic forms of decision making and dominance over women still continue in the investigated area. This social attitude needs a change.
