GENETIC VARIABILITY AND EFFECT OF MASS SELECTION IN TORIA [Brassica campestris (L)]
1Rapeseed-Mustard Project, Orissa University of Agriculture and Technology,
Bhubaneswar – 751 003, India.
ABSTRACT
Genetic variability, heritability, and genetic advance as percentage of mean have been studied in 18 genotypes of rapeseed (Brassica campestris var.toria ) for 10 characters. Significant differences were observed for all characters indicating the diverse genetic nature of the genotypes studie. Heritability in broad sense was high for all the characters ranging from 82 to 99 per cent. Genetic advance as percentage of mean was high for siliquae per plant and moderate for plant height, primary and secondary branches per plant and 1000 seed weight. Mass selection positively responded for primary and secondary branches per plant, siliquae per plant , and seeds per siliqua .
