HETEROSIS, HETEROBELTIOSIS AND INBREEDING DEPRESSION IN OKRA [ABELMOSCHUS ESCULENTUS (L). MOENCH]
1Soil & Water Management Research Unit
Navsari Agricultural University, Navsari – 396 450, India
ABSTRACT
Heterosis and inbreeding depression was analyzed by six generation mean for pod yield per plant and yield contributing traits in six inter varietals crosses of okra. The results revealed that all the three crosses exhibited significant heterosis over mid parent and better parents for yield and yield contributing characters followed by significant inbreeding depression, indicating the predominance role of dominance type of gene action. So, further improvement may be possible by exploiting the heterosis through heterosis breeding.
