Ten pearl millet populations and their 45 crosses (half dlallel) were evaluated
for determining their utility as parents In the development of hybrids and/or high
yielding varieties. Populations ICMV 95501, RVPT 93(102) and ICMV 94174,
and crosses HMP 9102 x RVPT 93(115), HP 8601 x ICMV 95178, RVPT 93
(102) x ICMV 95178, HMP 9002 x HP 8601 and HP8601 x ICMV 94174 were
Judged the best for panicle surface area on the. basis of per se performance and
combining abl1lty analysis. The use of these· popul~tlons and crosses for development
of high yielding varieties and for development of new potential Inbreeds for
hybrids has been suggested.
