Seeds of mungbean (Vigna radiata L. Wilczek) cv. Pusa Baisakhi were treated with different concentrations (10 4M, 5x10 4M and 10 3M) of CdSO 4. Gennination per cent remained unaffected upto 5 x 10 4M CdSO 4 but inhibited to the extent of 5 per cent with 10 −3M CdSO 4. Seedling growth parameters like length, fresh and dry weight of different seedling parts were found to decrease over control in response to treatment with Cd 2. The magnitude of inhibition directly correlated with the concentration of Cd 2.
