A field trial consisting treattments of different levels of FYM, lac mud, chemical fertilizers alone and in combination was conducted with a view to economize the use of fertilizers through organic sources during 1988 and 1989. There was significant increase in growth and yield attributes of rice over control with successive increase In the level of plant nutrients. The application of 10 tonnes of FYM and lac mud with half dose of chemical fertilizer (N 50P 11K 125 kg/ha) significantly increased the rice grain yield which want par with the recommended dose of chemical fertilizers (N 100P 22K 25 kg/ha). The results suggested that the recommended dose of chemical fertilizer can be reduced to half by adequate supplement of organic manure either in the form of lac mud or FYM
