STUDIES ON GRAlN·YlELD AND SOME PHYSICO-CHEMICAL CHARACfERISTICS IN AROMATIC RICE OF EASTERN INDIA
1Central Rice Research Institute.
Cuttack - 753 006. India
ABSTRACT
Twenty aromatic rice genotypes including one check variety (Taroari Basmati) were evaluated for yield and quality attributes. Among the genotypes, RP 3135-17-12-8-8 for hulling, milling, head rice recovery, alkali value and water uptake, UPR 93-63-2 for kernel length, CRM 2203-1 for KLAC and elongation ratio, Pusa 1280-1-2-1 for amylose content and CRM 2203-4 for yield were found to bs promising. The grain type is long slender in all the genotypes. Similarly, amylose content was intermediate in all the genotypes except CRM 839 and CRM 689-116-2. Hence promising cultlvars can be included in the varietal development programme of scented rice for Eastern India. The physico-chemical characters have been discussed along with the promising genotypes for each attributes.
