A field experiment was conducted on sandy loam soils during kharif, 2002 to find out the best time of sowing for different maize genotypes under rainfed conditions in the southern agro-climatic zone of Andhra Pradesh. Four genotypes viz., DHM 103, DHM 107, Harsha and Varun were sown during second fortnight of July, first fortnight of August, second fortnight of August and first fortnight of September. Genotype DHM 103 recorded higher yield attributes, seed yield and economic returns compared to other genotypes. Crop sown during second fortnight of August resulted in the highest yield attributes, seed yield and monetary returns over other dates of sowing. Maize genotype DHM 103 performed well when sown during second fortnight of August, as it has resulted in higher seed yield and economic returns.
